Harvest Monday - Memorial Day!!

10.55 ounces of Portabella's!!

YAHOO!

One .... Just ONE Strawberry!

Hubby & I shared it ;)

Actually, last night my niece and I picked 2 more ripe ones!

This photo was taken Thursday evening....my KY Pole Beans are sprouting! I am so excited! I was worried that the seeds may have washed away or rotted out with this INSANE amount of rainfall we have had. Thus far it looks like 7 out of the 8 I planted around this pole have come up!

We'd enjoyed more lettuce from our lettuce patch for dinner during the week, but I already forgot to weigh it!

In other gardening news, we were hoping to get our main gardens in today and it looks like it STILL won't happen :( Hubby gave them another till last night and they are so muddy from all this dang rain that the tiller actually got stuck. Allen had to hook tow chains up to it and lift it out of the mud/garden with our tractor front end loader!!!! Keep your fingers crossed that we have NO rain this week so the beds dry up and the veggies can go in!

I am linking up to Harvest Monday over at Daphne's Dandelions. Check out other gardener's harvests over there.

Well you have one more strawberry than me. Congratulations!

Maybe I'll get my plants in too if it dries up enough. :)

Boy those first strawberries are the best! I always eat a few while I'm picking them too!

Hopefully your gardens will dry out this week so you can get your crops in. The excessive rain finally stopped here this past week

This is the craziest weather here, too! If it weren't for my raised beds, I don't know when I'd be getting in my garden. Hey, portabellas! So nice! I've never attempted them, so I am in awe. Good job.

So cool I have never tried growing mushroom yet! I hope the weather will be very pleasant for you so you can work on your garden.

I loved reading about your farm family! I also am a sucker for rescues and I had horses for 25 years until I lost my horse of 15 years in a tragic pasture accident 4+ years ago (which led to gardening as my new [and much less expensive] hobby). USERL is one of the charities I support though.

How do you grow your portabellas? We have a few mushroom logs but they never really did anything; we heard from the mushroom guy we got the spores from that something was wrong with that batch of spores because no one really got much from the batch.

Yum! Portabello mushrooms! How fun is that?

Sorry the weather is being so uncooperative. Hopefully a dry spell will commence soon and you will be good to go.

I'll be hoping for dry weather for you. We could use an inch of rain here. It hasn't rained in a while and the weather has been hot. I hope we don't get a repeat of last year. I like living in a place that gets rain most weeks.

I love portabells. Well I love mushrooms in general. They are so good.

foodgardenkitchen - thank you! I am so sorry to hear about your horse. I also have a friend who recently lost her beloved in a freak pasture accident :/ They are so strong, yet so fragile.

USERL is a GREAT charity!!

For the Portabella's, this is our first go round trying to grow mushrooms so I ordered a kit from cooksgarden.com....We've been pleased with the results thus far. I'd like to try some other varities too, but continuing to have to buy the kits would get $$$.

Hi Allison, thanks for visiting. I'm going to have to come back and learn all about portabella growing. We blow the grocery budget on that way too much, but I can't go without them. My husband had never eaten a chive bloom and thought I was nuts to harvest those. Until he ate one. :-)

I think that a lot of gardeners are feeling your pain. I know I am here in the West. Everything is dormant! Although I did eat a radish yesterday from the garden. It was the first thing this season! Ready for nicer weather! Congrats on the strawberry! :)

I totally understand about the rain. We are well over our normal annual rainfall and it is only May! I am glad our garden's have not floated away or drown!

IK thought it was so cute tht you shared the strawberry. I can just picture you cutting it in half with such ceremony. Very funny!

RG - They come in a kit. My husband is the one who did it, but that I can gather, the box was already filled with soil and some sort of spore, I assume, and it just kept the box watered/moist and in a cooler, darker area (the basement)
